Baker papers, 1912-1917.

Primarily photographs taken by Baker on a trip through Arizona and New Mexico in 1916. There is a small amount of correspondence relating to the photographs including a copy of a letter from Theodore Roosevelt. Photographs are mostly views of Canyon de Chelly, the Petrified Forest, and exceptional images of the Hopi Village of Walpi. Photographs of the Navajo and Hopi are clearly staged. Images include demonstrations of Hopi basket weaving, and Navajo weaving and silversmithing. Canyon de Chelly photographs include groups of tourists. There are also images of Plains Indians, Jemez State Monument and Bandelier National Monument and portraits of Charles M. Russell, Mary Roberts Rinehart, and Howard Eaton.
